• Job Title: Rolling Mill Supervisor

• Target Product: Quality Reinforcing Bars (Rebar)
• JOB PURPOSE:
• Supervise and coordinate daily rolling mill operations to ensure efficient, safe, and continuous production of quality reinforcing bars in compliance with production targets, approved specifications, and operational procedures.
• Manage and control fuel consumption, billet utilization, production yield losses, and equipment downtime.
• KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Production Operations Management:
• Implement daily/shift production plans to hit target output metrics.
• Oversee the end-to-end production workflow: billet reheating, rolling, TMT treatment, cutting, cooling, counting, and bundling.
• Maintain seamless coordination across furnace, rolling mill, and finishing units.
• Monitor operational parameters including rolling speed, furnace temperature, product dimensions, rolling stands, guides, and TMT systems.
• Identify operational bottlenecks and execute immediate corrective actions to limit downtime.
• Fuel & Material Cost Control:
• Track furnace fuel consumption during start-up and normal operations, maintaining strict target metrics for fuel consumption per ton of finished rebar.
• Maximize billet utilization efficiency while minimizing scrap, cobbles, rework, and material waste.
• Analyze production yield, investigate abnormal consumption variances, and reconcile billet inputs against finished outputs.
• Quality Control & Standard Compliance:
• Ensure rebar production strictly complies with approved product specifications and Ethiopian national standards.
• Partner with Quality Control teams on routine product sampling, inspection, testing, and defect segregation.
• Execute root-cause investigations and implement corrective action plans for quality defects.
• Equipment Condition & Maintenance Coordination:
• Oversee pre-start equipment inspections across reheating furnaces, rolling stands, TMT systems, shears, and finishing units.
• Detect operational abnormalities, log maintenance requests, and align preventive maintenance schedules with production targets.
• Ensure compromised or unsafe equipment is locked out until cleared by authorized technical personnel.
• Health, Safety & Environment (HSE):
• Enforce strict adherence to HSE policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and Permit to Work (PTW) protocols.
• Ensure operational integrity of machine guards, emergency stop switches, and safety interlocks.
• Conduct daily toolbox talks, report incidents/near-misses promptly, and maintain 5S housekeeping standards and proper scrap handling.
• Supervisory & Shift Reporting:
• Assign shift duties, evaluate staff performance, and manage attendance and discipline.
• Deliver technical guidance and on-the-job training to equipment operators.
• Execute structured shift handovers and submit daily production, fuel consumption, downtime, and material balance reports.
