About the role

Location: Addis Ababa, with occasional visits to farm sites in Gambella, Bonga, and Jimma Employment Type: Permanent Salary: Negotiable / Attractive Guarantor Requirement: Selected candidates must provide a sufficient guarantor in accordance with company requirements. Responsibilities • Develop, implement, and continuously improve the Group’s occupational health, safety, environmental, and risk-management policies, procedures, and programs. • Establish and monitor safety standards and procedures across the Group’s business operations, including transportation, agriculture, trading, workshops, warehouses, and other operational activities. • Conduct regular workplace, vehicle, equipment, and operational safety inspections and identify potential hazards and risks. • Ensure compliance with applicable occupational safety, road safety, environmental, insurance, and other legal and regulatory requirements. • Develop and implement accident and incident prevention programs and monitor their effectiveness. • Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, property damage, and other safety-related events; identify root causes and recommend corrective and preventive actions. • Monitor the implementation of safety recommendations and corrective actions and report outstanding issues to management. • Develop and deliver safety awareness, induction, defensive-driving, emergency-response, and other relevant training programs for employees and drivers. • Coordinate emergency preparedness and response plans covering fire, road accidents, workplace incidents, and other emergencies. • Establish and monitor safety performance indicators and prepare daily, weekly, monthly, and periodic safety reports for management. • Maintain accurate records of accidents, incidents, inspections, training, safety violations, corrective actions, and other safety-related activities. • Develop and monitor vehicle and driver safety programs, including driver performance, road-safety compliance, vehicle inspections, and accident prevention. • Coordinate with relevant departments on fleet, workshop, maintenance, transport, and operational safety matters. • Manage the Group’s insurance portfolio, including motor, property, cargo, liability, employee-related, and other applicable insurance policies. • Coordinate insurance policy renewals, endorsements, claims notifications, documentation, follow-up, and settlement processes with insurance companies and brokers. • Review insurance coverage and advise management on appropriate coverage, exclusions, deductibles, and potential risk exposures. • Maintain an up-to-date insurance register covering the Group’s vehicles, properties, equipment, cargo, and other insurable assets. • Coordinate accident and insurance claims investigations and ensure timely submission of complete supporting documentation. • Liaise with insurance companies, brokers, assessors, legal representatives, police, and other relevant stakeholders regarding claims and risk-management matters. • Monitor insurance costs, claims history, recoveries, outstanding claims, and loss ratios and provide periodic reports to management. • Identify opportunities to reduce accidents, operational losses, insurance claims, and associated costs. • Provide management with professional advice on safety, insurance, operational risks, and loss-prevention measures. • Perform other safety, insurance, risk-management, and related duties as assigned by management.

Required qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety, workplace risk assessment, accident prevention, incident investigation, and safety management systems.
  • Practical knowledge of fleet and road safety, particularly heavy vehicles, transportation operations, workshops, and logistics environments.
  • Good understanding of insurance principles, policy administration, claims management, risk assessment, and insurance documentation.
  • Strong ability to identify operational risks and develop practical corrective and preventive measures.
  • Good knowledge of applicable safety, road transport, environmental, and insurance-related regulatory requirements.
  • Strong leadership, communication, coordination, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with drivers, technical personnel, operational teams, management, insurance companies, brokers, and other stakeholders.
  • Good report-writing, documentation, analytical, and presentation skills.
  • Good computer literacy, particularly in MS Office and management report preparation.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Management, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience
  • 5–7+ years of relevant professional experience, including at least 3 years of direct experience in a Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, Risk Management, Insurance, Fleet Safety, or closely related managerial or supervisory position.
  • Practical experience in transportation, fleet operations, logistics, manufacturing, construction, agriculture, or other operationally intensive environments is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience in insurance policy administration and claims handling is highly desirable.
