• JOB SUMMARY
• Provides expert advice to the Program Director and portfolio team on GPM technology platforms, digital business models, and growth strategies. Ensures that grants and technical assistance support the development of scalable, secure, and commercially viable marketplaces.
• ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Advise on GPM selection criteria and assess platform maturity and technology readiness during due diligence.
• Review GPM business plans, scale-up strategies, and digital roadmaps, and advise on grant milestones linked to platform growth.
• Advise GPMs on core platform functions, including worker matching, verification, ratings, digital payments, data protection, and cybersecurity.
• Advise on integration with national digital infrastructure, including Fayda digital ID and mobile money.
• Define the scope of technology support packages and evaluate technology service providers.
• Provide technical opinions to the Investment Committee and contribute to quarterly portfolio reviews.
• Brief the Program Director and Steering Committee on trends in platform work, artificial intelligence (AI), and remote work affecting youth employment.
• Contribute to learning materials with the MERL team and a service provider involved in MERL-related activities.

Required qualifications

• EDUCATION AND TRAINING
• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Training in product management or digital strategy is an advantage.
• EXPERIENCE
• At least 12 years of experience in technology strategy, digital platforms, or venture advisory.
• At least 5 years of experience advising technology startups or SMEs in Africa.
• Direct experience building or scaling an online marketplace is preferred.
• SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
• Knowledge of platform economics and digital business model design.
• Expertise in product management and technical architecture review.
• Working knowledge of data protection and cybersecurity standards.
• Financial modeling skills for technology businesses.
• Ability to coach founders and present to senior decision-makers.
